“I believe in the power of the media to positively change people’s perception, and thus, actions. Bayview Hunters Point is full of talented, creative, professional and hard-working young people, adults and seniors, who really care about their community and are doing so much for it. If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a city to raise a community, but it’s hard to do so and especially for the community and youth to feel empowered when they have been historically plagued with negative portrayals in the media.

“If there is one thing we can do, it is to create, distribute, request and choose to watch real and positive stories of our community. Without sugar-coating the reality and hardships, my hope is that through the sharing of our stories and media, we find we have more in common with each other, and we have the power to create change starting from the positive not the negative. This is happening already. The youth, families and community partners we see at BAYCAT are inspiring and give me hope.”
—Villy Wang, BAYCAT President/CEO
