While Pier 39 may seem to be a tourist trap to most San Franciscans, it does offer a great venue to properly celebrate the birth of the nation. This year, the pier will once again host a variety of activities and musical performances on Independence Day. The event will cap off at 9:30 p.m. with the traditional City & County of San Francisco’s fireworks display on the bay.

Pier 39 officially turns 39 years old in 2017. To honor its golden birthday, the pier’s managers have been throwing an event every Friday since January to help celebrate. Movie nights, 70s roller disco parties, and beer and wine pours have been among some of the birthday celebrations. The events will end 39 weeks after they began, on October 14, the official 39th birthday of the pier.
