San Francisco may not be New Orleans, but it is close enough. The Fillmore Jazz Festival will be happening throughout the weekend of July 7.
During World War II, the Fillmore hosted legendary jazz musicians such as Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. It was a Mecca for jazz clubs. However, it was not until the 1980s, long after the golden age of jazz, that the Fillmore Merchants Association launched the jazz festival.

Since 1985, artists such as Dr. Lonnie Smith, Denise Perrier, Lady Memphis [Lady Mem'fis] and Kim Nalley have graced the festival with their musical presences. Almost 90,000 people are expected to make it to the 2012 event. The visitors will be able to stroll along Fillmore Street and listen to an eclectic mix of jazz. They will also be able patronize some fine art and cuisine booths lining the street.

Jazz enthusiasts interested in the event can go to http://www.fillmorejazzfestival.com/ to learn more about it.
