Independence Day!

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” — The United States Declaration of Independence.

When the U.S. founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, they declared that the original 13 colonies were independent from Great Britain. However they were a little off; that would not happen until 1783, at the end of the Revolutionary War, when the colonies actually got free from the United Kingdom. Yet Americans still consider July 4 as being the beginning of our country.

San Francisco, will also be celebrating this traditional day in our history. Those visiting Pier 39 from 2–11 p.m. on July 4 will be treated to music and fireworks. From 2–6 p.m., the Air Force band Mobility will play on the dock. Later, at 6 p.m., music from the 1980s will be projected throughout the pier. Then at 9:30 p.m., an orchestrated fireworks display will take place nearby on the bay.
