The community is invited to take part in one of the longest running celebrations commemorating the announcement of the abolition of slavery — the San Francisco Juneteenth Celebration. The kickoff is on June 1 from 3–7 p.m., with a special celebration at the African American Art &Culture Complex. A parade will be held on June 16 at 11 a.m., starting the weekend festivities at Fillmore Street between Geary Blvd. and McAllister. From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on June 16 and 17, there will be live entertainment, community organization working groups, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, a soul train line and much, much more. Visit www.sfjuneteenth.org for more information.
